What this journal will not say about Vinted, eBay or Vestiaire Collective

Bazin · 15 November 2026

A shop that sells second-hand occasionwear is competing with places that are not shops: an auction board, a wardrobe-cleaning app, a supervised luxury marketplace, a rental locker, a classifieds page, a seamstress with a phone camera. Those names appear on this site, on purpose — if they did not, a reader looking for “vinted aso-oke” would find a page that refuses to say the word, and would be right to distrust it.

What we will say

  • What a place is. General fashion shelf, live-auction app, consignment operation, rental, classifieds, handmade marketplace. That is public, stable and the fact you are actually weighing.
  • What the piece you want is called there, and what it is called here — the words a buyer types and the words a seller has to answer.
  • What our own shop does, in the present tense, from this codebase: what a listing must declare, what the database refuses, what is held and when it is released.

What we will not say

  • A fee, a percentage or a limit. Another platform's prices are its own to publish, they change without telling anyone, and a number copied into an article becomes a falsehood on the day it moves. Where a comparison needs a figure, the page points at the live one.
  • A policy. Their returns window is in their terms, and their terms are not our text to rewrite.
  • A defect. “Their authentication is weak” is a claim about other people's staff. What we say instead is what we do not do here — we have no authentication lab, and no employee has ever examined a dress.
  • A ranking. Six questions, two answers, and the reader's own case.

Why the rule exists

Because a comparison page that names a competitor has borrowed that competitor's credibility to make its point, and the only thing keeping that honest is that everything on the page can be checked. Two thirds of what you read here is about us, and for those sentences you can ask: which screen, which rule, which database trigger. The third that is about other platforms is deliberately the thinnest part of the page — a name, and what the place is.

If a sentence in this journal is about another marketplace and cannot be checked by that marketplace's own site, it should not be in this journal.
